Why is this insurance requested and what does it cover?
Any temporary traveler who does not belong to the Schengen Area needs to present a certificate of insurance in accordance with European regulations for obtaining his visa (or a simple transit in E.U.). This insurance must be valid throughout the stay. It must guarantee the cost of medical repatriation and emergency medical or hospital care during the stay up to a minimum of € 30,000.
Any Schengen visa issued by a Member State of the Schengen Agreement shall be valid for the entire Schengen territory.
What is the Schengen Area?
The Schengen area refers to the 26 European states which acceded to the Schengen Agreements in 1985 and to the Schengen Convention in 1990, namely:
Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark (excluding Greenland and Faroe Islands), Estonia, Spain (except Ceuta and Melilla), Finland, France (except overseas France), Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway (except Svalbard), Netherlands (except Aruba, Curaçao, Saint Martin and the Caribbean Netherlands), Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland.
