Why a medical application ?

(Last Updated On: May 20, 2017)

The application form is based on a medical questionnary, which is the basis of the contract but does bind neither the insurer, nor the insured. In other words, the insured will have to answer “in good faith” the questions asked by the insurer to enable him to get a good idea of risks to be covered, and propose a suitable premium or refuse subscription. As it is easy to understand why it is important to ensure a car before the accident, it is necessary to cover your health… while you are healthy!

Principle of insurance is hazard: a sudden and unexpected event. Ongoing treatment, examinations provided or consequences of a past sickness or accident can therefore justify a particular insurer’s underwriting: acceptance of existing pathology with a loaded premium, excluding the pathology or refusing the subscription. Be careful of false statement: it is likely the insurer finds it at the first claim. Indeed, it will often be easy to find the history of the hidden pathology and the insurer will certainly refuse to support it!
